1977 DT100 (enduro) carb?

I am trying to decide how to get a bit better throttle response from my old 2 stroke bike and am trying to decide between a re-jet kit (comes with needle ,main, etc) and getting a new(er) carb. Would I be better off getting a newer carb that has close to the same specs from this era or have carbs not really changed enough to justify the more expensive costs? I am looking for smooth acceleration with little to no hesitation and a bit more low to mid torque vs high RPM. I don't beat on the bike too much so aside from road riding I don't get up too high in the RPM range and really would benefit from more low end power. Also are there any other things I can do to make the bike a bit more powerful (can't do a pipe). Thanks.
