Ram Upgrade Failed What am i doing wrong?

My computer is a HP D530 SFF with 4 slots for ram full with 256mb in each. I got 2 sticks more ram the same type but with 512mb instead so i fitted it and turned the pc on but the power light was red and it bleeped at me. What am i doing wrong?
